Deciding between Grove City College, Wheaton College (IL), and Gordon College
Hi! I’m deciding between Wheaton College, Grove City College, and Gordon College and I’m taking a long time.
I’m interested in psychology/neuroscience (maybe nutrition/dietetics or something interdisciplinary long term), and possibly business. I know that some of these are differing fields and i would like to combine them yet i'm not exactly sure how. At first I wanted to double major in psych and business but now i'm thinking to major in psych or neuroscience and just take some nutrition and business pre requisite classes or minors for some kind of business or dietician masters program. I also care a lot about having a good college experience with outdoor programs, theatre/music opportunities (i currently have no experience here), and a supportive community.
What I like with Grove is that they are strong in stem and business- i'd probably do my BS in psychology which is more STEM focused, they have a nutrition minor, and they have a 3+1 program not for psych (I don't need a masters I could just go for my PhD right after BA- everyone does this and it saves time and money), but for business- which might be smart for paying my way through grad school and I don't have to leave classmates behind persay (unless they too graduate early). I kinda feel like grove makes the most sense... With Wheaton they have a neuroscience program and psych I would likely just go for neuroscience as it gives the prerequisites needed for nutritionist/ dietitian etc , they have nice business too but no 3+1 programs- I might leave people behind. Same with Gordon they have a major in psych BA and minor in neuroscience and majors in business etc- no 3+1 programs- I understand that I need to to what is best and that may mean leaving people and at the same time some people might graduate early with me esp with everyone doing dual enrollment in HS these days. I would be interested in doing 1 yr Masters programs in business and/ or nutrition- business makes more and nutrition/dietetics can too but it's more for my integration with it in psychology/ neuroscience and I want to be able to also have those credentials for better understanding and ability to fully practice it (i don't even know if that's fully needed though). I just feel like Gordon might be harder to manage because i'd have to take extra courses in biology, science etc to meet the nutritionist prerequisites and probably do some neuroscience just for my own understanding and take a few business classes- it seems hard. but maybe it's not considering that i'd be taking summer classes, I could intern at neuroscience places even as a psych BA major... but would I end up taking more classes overall than i'd need to because it's not quite focused on the science/ biology side and i'd need to supplement by taking extra classes on campus and during summer- is that realistic esp for someone who will be working and wants free time for clubs, internships etc.
As for financial aid gordon is the highest net cost (after aid), wheaton is second, and grove is the lowest- they are all pretty close though.
I also want to know about:
- internship and study abroad opportunities at each school
- how easy it is to get involved in theatre/music (as a non-major and with no experience)
- overall student life vibe (especially outdoorsy/social culture)
- how people feel about their decision after enrolling
I'm absolutely clueless and some of what i've said may not even be necessary (deciding is stressing me out and i'm seriously overthinking things, lol!) but i need to choose one very soon. What do you think? Or if you attend (or have attended) any of these schools, I’d really appreciate honest insight about your experience, especially what you wish you knew before choosing.
Thank you :)
