How does the statute of limitations work for car accident claims?
I was rear ended last year. We exchanged insurance information information but never filed a police report because it seemed pretty minor at the time. I went back and forth with the other driver's insurance for a while, then life got busy. The back pain never completely went away, but I just learned to deal with it, and the whole claim sort of fell off my radar.
I am mainly trying to understand how the statue of limitations generally works in car accident cases. Is it generally measured from the date of the accident, the end of treatment, or something else? And does having an insurance claim open affect that deadline, or does it continue to run while the claim is being negotiated.
