Financial Review after checking spending power

As the title says, I recently checked my spending power by calling for my gold card. I was asking to put about $20k over the course of 3 days for some home projects going on.

I dont use amex for my checking account, so I offered to transfer the full balance needed to show I could cover the charges. The service rep said I was good for about $15k and could make payments as I went if I wanted.

I decided to just pay by check because the charge for a card wasn't worth the points and hassle.

3 days later I get an email stating after reviewing my account, I now have a preset spending limit, which is quite a bit under what I regularly use.

I called again and the "assured me" that the inquiry i made is a separate issue that had no bearing with this decision. They quoted that i have "major delinquency" on a different card with them. I asked the rep to verify what and when that was, and they told me I was late on a payment a few months ago. I paid it the day after it was due, as soon as they notified me. I made a mistake and mixed up the due date, I admit, but I also paid it in full the next day. Thats not considered delinquency as far as I know. They also never reached out to me at that time, so I moved on and didn't think about it.

Im fully convinced that me calling and asking has prompted this review. I will see what they ask for, but I currently have a sour taste in my mouth. I think they're being untruthful and basically punishing me for trying to make some points on a large spend.

Rant over, and any advice for the review is welcome
