I built and launched TableStage: map display software for in-person TTRPG sessions, running on a Raspberry Pi 4B

I got quite tired of having to haul my laptop to every session and having it take up space on the table, so I came up with my own solution.
One full year of coffee-fueled evenings, weekends, and sleepless nights later, I can proudly present TableStage to the world.

It's a flashable image for a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.
Plug the Pi into whatever TV or monitor lies on your table, connect your phone or tablet (laptop works too if you are so inclined) via QR code, and you're in control. The controller runs entirely in the browser and is served from the Pi directly, no app download required.
Everything runs on your local wifi, nothing touches the internet during play.

It supports static and animated (video) maps up to 4K60, hardware-accelerated on the Pi. Fog of war drawn from your phone, hex and square grid overlays, music and ambience pinned per map, color grading, customisable idle screens, animated fog and cloud overlays for static maps.
Rendering runs on a custom pipeline built specifically for the Pi's hardware allowing me to squeeze every bit of performance out of the device.

I deliberately did not build yet another VTT and have no intention to shift into one. No tokens, no online play, no accounts. It ships empty, you bring your own maps and audio.

The business side: 39€ (or your regional equivalent) one-time purchase, lifetime license, free trial with no time limit, just usage caps. I decided against a subscription model here and am curious what this crowd makes of that call.

Maps and audio in the showcases are from Crosshead Studios and Tabletop Audio, used with permission.

Please do have a look around www.tablestage.com

Feedback is very welcome, happy to answer anything.

I made map display software for in-person sessions, controlled from your phone. Introducing TableStage! (mod approved)

I got fairly tired of hauling a laptop to the table and fighting screen mirroring every session, so I built my own thing. TableStage is a flashable image for a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, plug the Pi into whatever TV or monitor you have laying on your table. Connect your phone or tablet via a QR code and bob's your uncle, you are in control.

This runs entirely in your browser, there is no separate app download required. Everything runs on your local wifi as well, nothing touches the internet during play.

There's a free trial with no time limit, just some usage caps applied, so you can see for yourself before paying anything. The full license is a one-time purchase of 39€ or your regional equivalent, no subscription required.

TableStage supports static maps and animated (video) maps. Up to 4K60 if they're H.265 encoded, 1080p for H.264. mp4 and mov are supported.

You can upload maps, sort them into collections, categories and tag them, giving you full control of your collection.

TableStage also features:

-Fog of war that can be toggled on and off on the fly. You draw on your phone to reveal or hide areas.

-A grid overlay that supports either hexagonal or square grids and can be customised in size to fit your tv and your system's required spacing for minis, colour, and opacity.

-You can upload and manage music and ambience tracks, either play them during your session as you would with any music player or pin them to individual maps, set autoplay, switch a map and the audio switches with it.

-Connect bluetooth speakers, airplay devices, use your tv speakers or the Pi's audio jack for audio output.

-Customiseable idle screens to set what is on display while you're not showing a map.

-Colour grading overlays to set the mood, from dusk till dawn and a few things in between!

-Animated cloud and fog overlays for static maps.

What TableStage is not:

I deliberately set out not to build yet another VTT system and I have no intention to shift into one. There are no tokens, no online play.

A big thank you goes to Crosshead Studios & Tabletop Audio for letting me use their maps and audio in my showcases.

Happy to answer questions here all evening, or morning for that matter.
