My puppy won’t settle outside his crate but barks and whines and scratches when I put him in there until he falls asleep.
He’s usually awake for about and hour each time. He’s just turned 12 weeks. We introduced him from the get go and he will go in there and look for treats. I admit we rushed how long we left him in there as me and my partner hadn’t communicated how we were going to crate train him, so it wasn’t gradual. But if he fells asleep outside we would lay him in his crate.
He has now gotten to the point where he will not settle outside his crate but when he gets in there he’ll bark and whine and scratch for 5-10 minutes until he falls asleep. If I leave him and ignore him to try and get him to nap outside he just turns into a feral overtired beast and as he’s started teething the biting becomes relentless. I ensure he has gone to the toilet and isn’t hungry and was tired out and not over excited when he gets in there. I give him a kong or a licky mat to calm him down but once it’s done he goes back to barking and whining.
Any advice on what to do would be great. Thanks!
