How do you usually play with idioms or phrases?
Sometimes I like toying around with phrases. Makes the characters sound wittier.
Personal favourite of mine:
> His presentation of his family tree two days later went by flyingly. Swimming colors even.
Also some years ago (I say some when it's closer to 10), I read this fanfic where an author went all in on "Pregnant silence". The author talked about how silence got a child, then a grandchild, etc. I was on my bed crying and laughing and I couldn't breathe 😭
