Which telescope to buy

Hey everyone,

I’m currently looking for a new telescope and wanted to ask for some advice.

So far I’ve only owned a cheap 76/700 telescope, but recently I’ve been getting more into astronomy and researching different telescope types. I noticed that Dobsonian telescopes are often recommended because they seem to offer the best performance for the money.

Right now I’m looking at the Skywatcher Dobson N 254/1200 Pyrex Skyliner Classic DOB. The 10-inch aperture sounds amazing for deep sky objects and planets.

But while researching, I started wondering:

  • Do beginners really need tracking or a GoTo function?
  • Does using a telescope without GoTo become annoying quickly?
  • Are there any good tripod + telescope setups with tracking/GoTo within my budget?
  • Or is a classic Dobsonian still the better choice?

My budget is around 700€ maximum.

I mainly want to observe the Moon, planets, and hopefully get more into deep sky observing. Transporting the telescope is possible, but I’d prefer something that isn’t extremely difficult to move around.

I’d really appreciate recommendations or personal experiences
