Hi everyone, my first post here please be kind.

In short I had an interview last week, before I even began the interview say that there is another role that he is opening up and he had a thorough read of my CV and find me more suitable for that role. But he say in his own words that "he is pretty sure that I can take both role well." So the interview resume...it was fairly conversational more like 2 professionals talking. And it ended off early as he need to rush off for a meeting. Towards the end of the interview he mention about a followup interview next week and even talked about package.

And that's it. Once the call is down I got ghosted. Didn't hear back from him anymore. I send a courtesy email and try to connect with him through LinkedIn and there was no reply.

It was a MNC and a mid-senior role.

Tbh I know at this point, it is pretty much a goner but I am genuinely curious like why. And why so unprofessional and even bother to lead people on when he could have just ended off with a neutral "if you are selected for next round, hr will reach out to you". Have anyone of you experience this before?

UPDATE: hi for those who have been encouraging, thank you. Just like to provide an update on this case for those who are following. I just got to know an ex-colleague of mine interview for the same role as well. She met the same interviewer (who is supposed the hiring manager) and was even a promise certain compensation and a followup interview with the regional head..and then ghosted. I don't want to jump into any conspiracy theory, but this whole ordeal sounds like a scam. And this is a MNC btw, an established name. The level of unprofessionalism is real.
