Heading to "Almost Heaven" and looking for local tips!

Hello! A few friends and I are driving down from Detroit next week and will be based in Bridgeport for 3 days. We really want to experience the beauty of "Mountain mama" and are looking for some local insight.

We are definitely hitting Valley Falls, New River Gorge, Blackwater Falls, and Coopers Rock. Since we’ll have our own car, we are happy to drive a bit to reach the best spots.

Since we’ll have our own car, we are happy to drive a bit to reach the best spots. We are interested in:

  • Nature & Views: What are the "can't-miss" scenic spots, parks, or overlooks within a 2-3 hour drive? We enjoy light-to-moderate hiking and photography.
  • Scenic Routes: Are there any specific backroads or routes that are particularly beautiful this time of year?
  • Local Favorites: We’re looking for a few spots to grab a casual dinner or drinks after a day out. We’d love to visit places that feel authentic to the area.

Any suggestions for hidden gems or local favorites would be greatly appreciated.
