[DE] First Time Renter Questions
Hi, It's my first time renting, so I have some questions.
I have already signed the lease, which was stupid of me before I saw the property in person, but I asked them if I could and what I asked for in the 1st question. They did send me a video of the studio apartment. I found the property from places4students .com from my college off-campus housing website (would this help make sure it's not a scam?).
Is it weird for me to ask for a water bill to "make sure" of their identity as the owner of the property?
- This is because my mom wanted me to ask them for it, but I saw somewhere that it was a red flag for someone to ask for that. They did sent a utility bill, but my mom said it isn't enough proof, but I searched up that they were the same.
Is it normal to pay them by wiring it to them in DE? This includes 1st month's payment and the equivalent if it for a security deposit, total >$1,400.
- Since it's through wire, the bank asked if we were sure it wasn't a scam. This made my mom scared, so she asked me if I was sure about it. So, I wanted to ask if having a utility bill from the person is enough proof.
- Also, I searched that it is normal for the 1st payment w/ security deposit, so It probably is normal?
