Help!

Help me please! I don’t know what to do. I had a betta fish that died. I’m still not entirely sure what happened as I’d only had her about a month before she got sick and died and all of the water parameters were normal. I think it was dropsy but I’m not 100% sure.

After she died I just left the tank because I wasn’t ready to get another fish yet. The filter wasn’t on but I think the heater was and the light was on some. I noticed some little like tiny worms moving around in there the other day and then I noticed my kids had put a coin in there. And then it started getting foamy. First picture is how bad it was this morning and the others are after I’d drained most of the water. When I was draining it I did see a fly in there. I don’t know if any of that is relevant it’s just everything I’ve noticed happening with it lately.

What happened with the water? And what do I do now? Are the plants and decor salvageable or do I need to throw it all away? If I can save them how should I clean it all?

Edit: the tank was cycled prior to getting the fish. Water was tested every other day including ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.

The tank has been fishless for about 6 weeks now, but didn’t start getting weird and foamy until a week ago. I just didn’t get around to cleaning it until this morning. I wasn’t super worried about the water since there weren’t any fish in there. I was just planning on starting over with cycling it before getting another fish.

I had a betta fish in a tiny bowl with little decor, no heater, no filter all that shit when I was a teenager so I’ve been determined to get things right this time and did a bunch of research. At this point I just want to know if I can salvage the plants and decor or if I need to throw it away. Everything will be fully cleaned and cycled again before I get another fish. It didn’t post all of the pictures, so I posted a comment with the foamy water before I drained it.
