Wondering how rigidly firms apply billable hour bonus eligibility floors to first year and/or lateral associates who don’t start the performance period operating at full capacity.

How much latitude do firms afford new hires when it understandably takes a few months to ramp up? I’d imagine it varies by firm and circumstance, so insight both general and specific is welcome.

I’m six months in and trying to figure out if the few months it took to get into a rhythm (plus a low hour April with a lot of nonbillable but time consuming work) have already put me in the “not this year” category for a bonus.
