R.I.P to Oliver. i didnt know his comedy that well but he was always a fun guest on the podcasts i watched like bad friends. watched his episode today and it was a fun one. Please go enjoy and watch!
alright i owe ep 2 an apology bc i was pretty hard on the premiere last week
watched ralph barbosa vs felipe esparza and this was basically the version of the show i was asking for in my ep 1 post. they actually start a game at like 2 minutes ("watch who youre hawking to" with celebrity ad photos). ep 1 felt like 35 min of bobby vs eric therapy and 4 min of games. ep 2 is 26 minutes total and they run through a bunch of stuff. sniff the race, what happened here, the pizza guy bit, celebrity guess who. ralph wins at the end. it felt like a game show
biggest difference is nobody was dragging old comedy store drama into the basement. bobby was still bobby but it was playful host bobby not "i dont want to talk to you about what you did a month ago" bobby. felipe and ralph actually wanted to play. felipe literally goes "ive never played any of these games" and they just keep moving. andrew stays locked in hosting the whole time which tracks with ep 1 too. you can tell he cares about this working
ep 1 with bert and eric was always gonna be a weird lead. eric andre in a nick kreiss directed basement game show is basically asking for chaos. still think putting that out FIRST was a choice. ep 2 feels like what they shouldve used to show people "heres the format heres the games heres the vibe"
not saying the show is perfect now. theres still ad reads and some bits run long. but i actually like the bobby mom stuff, thats one of the funnier parts of the whole thing for me. compared to last week this was a way easier watch and i actually laughed instead of checking how much runtime was left
so yeah i was wrong to act like the whole season was cooked off one ep. ep 1 had real problems. ep 2 proves the concept works when they let the games be the show and pick guests who are there to play along
still watching ep 3. hope they keep this energy. but fair is fair ep 2 was good
watched ep 1 of the bad game show last night. parts of it were actually fun. basement set is dumb in a good way. santino looks way better on camera than i expected lol. bert AND eric andre on the first episode is kinda insane for a youtube thing
but bobby. and i listen to bad friends every week so im not some random hater
podcast format works bc youre just listening to two dudes yap for an hour. dont matter if 20 minutes is them arguing about something from 2019. game show hits different tho. youre watching a GAME SHOW. or youre supposed to be
ep 1 felt like maybe 4 minutes of actual games and the rest was bobby getting confrontational over nothing. someone asks a simple question he makes it a whole thing. old podcast drama pops back up for no reason. gets competitive about stuff that doesnt matter. same vibe as the laser tag clip where he bought the better gun and won and everyone called him pay to win except stretched out to a full episode
rudy has told him on the pod he complains too much and makes everything dramatic. theres episodes literally called beef where they rehash who texted who back. fine when im doing dishes. not fine when im trying to watch people play dumb games in a basement
trailer comments were already split before ep 1 even dropped. eric andre people were hyped. other people said theyre skipping the bert episode. bunch of comments about bobby acting like a child at almost 60. i thought that was mean but after watching i kinda get what they meant
also see why no streaming service picked this up. concept isnt bad, they have an audience, its bobby and andrew, ATC, whatever. but if THIS is episode 1?? the one you put out first?? premiere night you usually drop your strongest ep right. show off the games. show the guests actually vibing. make it feel like a show
instead felt like a regular bad friends ep with a game show logo on it. and they already filmed 9 more. if this was the one they picked to lead thats rough for the rest of the season
you can tell andrew is trying to stay professional the whole time. like you can actually see it. he clearly believes in this and wants it to work. im sure bobby does too but ep 1 didnt really show that side of him. if the other 9 eps are all like this bobby basically tanked it and thats the part that actually sucks. andrew clearly gives a shit. the crew does too. everyone involved and bobby still couldnt finally just put 100% into something
i laughed. im not asking for jeopardy. ill probably watch ep 2. i just dont wanna sit through 10 weeks of bobby bringing up old shit every time someone scores a point
