1 week post ORIF

Hi guys I broke my ankle last Monday and had a surgery Tuesday morning. The whole medical team including EMS Doctors nurses were amazing and I almost didn’t feel that much discomfort. My nerve block pretty much lasted until day 5 so I was lucky enough to not feel the excruciating pain everyone talks about. The medications did mess with my gut health as I already have underlying gastrointestinal problems. I took Oxy only for first 2 days and did ibu 600 and Tylenol 1000mg for the rest of the time even though I wasn’t hurting I was scared of what would happen after the block wore off. On Sunday I removed it but the pain is pretty controlled so I’ve been taking only Tylenol as required since yesterday. Last week I wasn’t able to sleep much but once the nerve block wore off I can get some rest and I feel like my anxiety isn’t as flared as it was first couple of days.

Today it has been a whole week since surgery. My partner has been my primary care taker so I haven’t done any movement except using the bathroom. I’ve been elevating my foot pretty much all the time. Now I wonder if it’s even necessary? But from tomorrow his schedule is pretty tight so I’ll be on my own. I have started feeling the pain now whenever I get up especially with all that blood rush. I got a scooter but we live in very small space. I feel like I was pretty much numb most of the last week but now my brain fog has worn off and reality is starting to hit slowly. Idk what to do I’m NWB for 6 weeks and in the cast for 2 weeks. Everything feels so weird. I’m finding ways to keep myself occupied but what the future holds really scares me. Also I need to travel internationally around mid October idk what all I need to be prepared for. Like I don’t know what I’m looking for while posting this here my thoughts are all over the place. Any kind of advice would be appreciated!

Part time remote jobs

Soo I broke my ankle last week. Pretty sure a lot of people saw me lying on the side walk at north Lamar pease park side area. Also thank you to that one driver who stopped and offered to take me to the hospital I wasn’t really able to fathom anything at the moment.

I work remote but I’m looking for some more possibly part time remote opportunities cause my healing time is at least 12-14 weeks. I’m just 6 days post op today and I’m thinking of doing something to make the most out of this situation. The hospital bill is going to be crazy so I want to be a little prepared before they send mail me everything. And it would also be a perfect way to keep myself occupied. You guys have any idea?

1st week of broken ankle

Hi I see a lot of comments of people who’ve mostly gone through the worst which they say are the first couple of days or the week. Anyone here who went through this less than a week ago? How has your experience been. Today is my 6th day of the surgery

anxiety after surgery

I broke my ankle on Monday and had my surgery on Tuesday. My doctor said the nerve block would wear off after 2-3 days and I’m 6 days post op today and it’s going to wear off today. I haven’t felt much of pain so I stopped taking oxy after day 2 I am however taking Tylenol 1000mg and ibuprofen 600mg round the clock. I’m super nervous about what it’s going to feel like once it completely wears off however I cannot wait to get rid of it and start showering again. My splint comes off on August 27th and I’m 6 weeks NWB. The doctor told me that it would take 12-14 weeks healing time. Meanwhile my partner has been taking care of me completely so idk when do I start doing minimum household chores and start moving my body a bit more cause I’ve been on somewhat 90% bed rest so far.

One of the things I read was injury and surgery like this does spike your cortisol and increase your stress level. My anxiety has been on peak since day 1. For a couple of days I kept calling the doctors a lot for minor inconveniences. I have barely been getting 3-4 hours of sleep in a day. My anxiety peaks especially during night time. I feel like I’m going to get sick again or something bad might happen. Is this normal or should I do something about it? I haven been following a lot of people’s journey since my incident and don’t really see people talk about mental health that much. Anyone else feels the same?
