I am blessed to be visiting Costa Rica for an extended time (six weeks) I will be starting with a few days in La Fortuna. Any advice on where I should spend the rest of my time?

I do want to explore somewhat, but what I would really like is to plant myself in one place and absorb some culture. I do not want a fancy resort I enjoy staying in eco lodges and hostels, solo traveler.

Any advice on where you would stay or what you would do? I’m also up for volunteer activities.
