Mentally “giving up” 3/4s of the way through tempo runs

I don’t know if anyone has any experience with this, but I am finding I am having a mental block around km 8/9 of my faster runs. I don’t feel exhausted and all of a sudden I am like “a faster 5km is probably enough” or “you’re already not going to meet x pace so might as well just make this a recovery run”

Today the stoppage was “well you’re already going to break 50 so can slow down for 2” despite the fact I could have done better.

Anyone else? Any strategies? It doesn’t matter how much I hype myself up beforehand.

I run 70km a week so I don’t think it’s a fitness thing?
