Thoughts on the recent Maytime Festival? (Medyo pa-rant lang nang slight)
Yowww, kamusta yung experience niyo sa recent Maytime Festival? ako lang ba, or medyo ulit-ulit yung ganap talaga siya this year? It's not the schools, kasi, because they really give beautiful performances, but I enjoyed it naman, but the program itself. Let's talk about it, Kasi; I have thoughts.
Here are a few things that really frustrated me:
- The Trailer & The AI Music: In fairness, ang ganda ng pagkakagawa nung trailer nila. Props to that! Pero teka, napansin niyo ba yung background music? AI-generated siguro yung score, but the lyrics were catchy because I know who created that. No hate to them, thoo! wala na ba silang pondo pambayad ng matinong score or local musicians? Haha.
- The Prize Money for Participating Schools: e2o pa malala, 250k lang yung prize money para sa mga schools na nag champs + special awards really. Seryoso? Haha barat na barat e. Sa dami ng effort, pagod ng mga estudyante, teachers at gastos sa props, tapos ganyan lang i-o-offer nila? Make it make sense. Mind you, na tatlong groups dun is lumalaban at nanalo sa National level.
- The Program Flow & Guest Artists: Sobrang kalat ng program flow. I don't know who managed the event this year, pero parang ang gulo ng execution. It dragged on, the pacing was entirely off, and tapos yung sa guest artists parang ewan.
- The Never-Ending Trapo Shoutouts: The most annoying part? The endless "Salamat po Mayor Jun and Gov. Nina!" Sobrang umay. The politics were too loud.
- Speaking of the Ynares Center... Hanggang ngayon, bakit Ynares Center pa rin ang pangalan niyan? Diba na-impose na yung mga rules prohibiting the naming of government/public properties after politicians (Anti-Epal rules)? Bawal na dapat yung mga pangalan at logo ni kineso sa mga public buildings, ah.
Sayang kasi the festival is supposed to be for the people, not a massive PR stunt with bad management and maybe since school-based lagi ang nagpperform, try nila yung approach ng UAAP para palakasin yung hype kada schools, kulang na kulang e, as someone na nanunuod din tuwing December Fiesta.
