Designing symbolic creatures for a Silent Hill inspired psychological horror game

I’d love to hear what Silent Hill fans think about these concepts.

I’m a concept artist who recently joined a psychological horror game project heavily inspired by Silent Hill and classic survival horror.

Since I joined very recently, I still don’t fully know all of the lore or details of the world yet, so I ended up creating most of the current creature concepts mostly on my own based on the atmosphere and themes my friend described to me.

I already have concept art/sketches for most of the creatures (except “The Mother,” who is still unfinished), and I wanted to share the ideas here because I’d genuinely love feedback, criticism and new ideas from Silent Hill fans specifically.

The game takes place in a distorted city that manifests trauma, guilt, repression and hidden sins through monsters and environments rather than creating random creatures.

Right now we have 4 main creature concepts:

  1. “The Gas Soldier”
A humanoid figure with a fused gas mask and a weapon literally attached to its arm. Its body constantly leaks toxic gas and fluids. It represents contamination, suffocation and irreversible decay. It moves slowly but relentlessly, contaminating environments as it walks.

  2. “The Chorus”
A collective consciousness formed from the memories and regrets of people consumed by the city. Tall, thin and almost human, but with partially formed faces emerging beneath its skin and clothing. It speaks with overlapping voices and causes paranoia, distorted memories and identity confusion.

  3. “The Father” / “The Controller”
A tall, unnaturally thin humanoid wearing formal clothes. Calm, emotionless and disturbingly “caring.” One arm is subtly elongated with invasive fingers. He represents control, surveillance and false protection. Instead of acting violently, he invades the player’s personal space and speaks in a calm paternal tone while distorting perception and controls.

  4. “The Mother” / “The Keeper of the Secret”
Still unfinished visually, but conceptually she represents silence, denial and complicity. A woman who constantly tries to “fix” and organize things while hiding the horror around her. She restrains the player with thread and needles and desperately tries to keep painful truths buried.

The atmosphere we’re aiming for is:
• symbolic
• oppressive
• melancholic
• intimate
• psychologically disturbing

We want the monsters to feel emotionally meaningful rather than just visually grotesque.

I’d genuinely love to hear:
• creature ideas
• symbolic monster concepts
• Silent Hill style psychological horror suggestions
• criticism
• thoughts on the current concepts
• ideas for disturbing enemy behaviors/mechanics

I’ll post the creature sketches/concept art alongside this post.
