Found Mold all over living room ceiling and growing on my son’s high chair, musty vents Lease breaking advice
Title says it all. Lots of mold found on living room ceiling, also fuzzy mold growing on my son’s high chair. Musty smell and mold spots on vents. I believe it is in the HVAC system, not from a leak. We sneeze a lot.
2 months left on lease. Notified management and they had no empathy or concern, I told them I was moving out asap like within a matter of days and breaking my lease. They said “you did not give us 60 days notice so you will be responsible for lease breaking fee on top of the 2 months rent plus any additional fees you may incur”. Sounds like they are getting ready to bill me thousands! I don’t feel like paying another dime. I notified them of dark edges on vents I suspected were mold back in January and maintenance came and told me it was dirt/dust. There have been other issues like tobacco and marijuana smoke seeping in through the vents from neighboring apartments. I am getting the hell out of here!
Funny enough, I found another apartment, a new build but when I went to go look a the only unit available on the first floor as I had requested, there was a huge puddle from recent heavy rains on the concrete entrance leading right up to the door and wall of the apartment. The leasing agent assured me management had looked it over and said it was not entering the apartment but I could see a gap between the sidewalk and where the outside wall to the apartment was. Should I take this unit or request a second floor one that does not have a huge puddle of water leading up to the entrance? Advice needed on both issues.
