Maybe its just me but I dont see many posts about Caribbean med schools in general and defs not much about what day-to-day life is actually like, so thought I’d share my experience so far.

Anguilla itself is honestly a pretty chill place. It’s quiet, safe, and definitely not as hectic as living in a big city. That can be a good or bad thing depending on what you’re used to. Since the island is small, it gives off a cozy vibe which makes it easier to get to know the locals and integreate with other students. Its also great to establish a routine that will keep you grounded like study + gym + beach + repeat.

Cost of living is something people should think about. Groceries can be expensive since everything is imported, and eating out adds up quickly if you’re not careful. Most people end up cooking a lot and figuring out ways to budget.

In terms of studying, it’s pretty structured but you still have to be self-disciplined. Im at New Anglia University. No one’s going to chase you if you fall behind but the teaching staff at New Anglia do their very best to ensure that this does not happen in addition to providing great resources and books.

The environment actually helps in a weird way. Since there aren’t tons of distractions, you kind of fall into a routine. During exam periods, it feels like everyone is on the same wavelength, just grinding.

Downsides – it can feel a bit isolated at times - it being an island and all. But luckily, you are only on campus for 20 months for Basic Sciences and the island is overall easily reachable.

Upsides – small community, less distractions, and you get to live somewhere most people only visit for holidays. It’s a different experience for sure.

Overall, I’d say it’s not for everyone, but if you’re okay with a quieter lifestyle and staying focused, it works.

Happy to answer any questions if anyone’s considering it.
