My husband and I are considering filing Chapter 7 in Texas because we’ve built up more debt than we can realistically handle.

The thing is, we haven’t missed any payments yet, so I’m not sure how much that factors into whether we’d even qualify.

We also have several credit cards (mostly retail) that still have a lot of available credit. I’m wondering what typically happens with those if you know you’re likely going to file. Has anyone been in a situation where you were preparing to file and had to decide what to do about unused credit?

I’m just trying to understand how this process usually works from people who’ve been through it.
