What should we ACTUALLY learn from history?

We are constantly told that those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it. So, specifically in the context of the current rise right wing extremism mirrored against the history national socialism:

In your view, is that we should be learning? How easily populists influence electorates? The various brinks authoritarianism can lead us to?

I’m asking as I see more and more people soft-sympathize with the nazi movement, destructive ideologies, etc. I wonder what exact lessons we (or you, as historians) are referring to when we say - learn from the (1929-1945 Germany) past.
