I work 60 hrs a week and still get mediocre evaluations. Should I change jobs?

27(m), 4 YOE, $106k salaried. I’ll preface by saying that I like my job and I very much want to be successful. I work extra hours because I want to be better, and eventually I want to be good at my job. I don’t need to be good tomorrow, or a month from now. But I need to feel like I’m making progress, and I haven’t had that since I started.

A normal workday is 7AM-6PM. I’m also on call 24/7. After keeping track, over the past four weeks I worked on average about 4 hrs/week between 2AM-5AM on call. I normally save a couple extra hours of analytical work for the weekend since I don’t have time during the week.

I’m not trying to brag or complain about the number of hours I’m working, I just feel burnt out. It’s difficult to find time to go shopping or visit my parents.

But I also think my salary is decently above average.

I have a coworker who puts in more hours than I do, who I respect a lot. But they get very good evaluations each year. This year I got another ‘effective performance’, which is the same as the last three.

I don’t think I deserve a higher rating - I trust the company’s system. But I do think that if I’ve been putting in this many hours for at least three years, and I’m still just a ‘meets expectations’ person, maybe I'm doing the wrong thing. I just don’t feel like I have any direction on what I’m supposed to be doing or how I’m supposed to improve.

What do you guys think? Is the pay worth it for the hours? Am I just being cynical and should I keep grinding until I have useful skills in my career?

Or should I just go find something else already that I’m better at?
