To start I want to say I am not experienced in plumbing at all, just learning as I go. so bear with me.. Currently in the process of remodeling my bathroom. the toilet, vanity, and shower are all being moved. so obviously plumbing is as well.

cutting a hole in the wall for a new door, I was expecting to find the vent for the toilet, which I did. but it is 3”. I thought it would be smaller. this vent lives directly on top on the main sewer drain. so after seeing that, I thought to myself, oh it must be 3” because it’s directly on top on the main drain that runs into the basement (single story house btw). that 3” vent pipe runs into the attic and out the roof. So it’s vertical from basement to roof.

question is, since all plumbing fixtures are being moved, and that was serving as the vent for the toilet previously, can I remove that? or does it still need to be there at 3”?

I thought I could have each one vent at a smaller size and they would meet in the attic. so every would still be venting, I’m not removing any fixture from venting.

let me know your guys thoughts and happy to answer questions. thank you!
