I was thinking about the Muppets recently and was amazed at the level of engineering and artistry that went/goes into creating these pieces.
Then I started wondering: The arts of puppetry and ventriloquism don't seem to have the same level of prestige that other visual or performing arts, such as fashion, painting, or dance, possess. Is there a historical reason as to why art using puppets or dolls is often mocked or ridiculed, despite the apparent level of skill required to both create and bring these to life?
