“When they broke up in 2010, Waitt said he gave Maxwell $7.2 million. Asked why he gave her that money, he said "I just felt it was the right thing to do, not uncommon for people in my situation to do that. It was -- we lived a fairly extravagant life." If he had to do it over again, he said he wouldn't give her that money.
Waitt estimated he interacted with Epstein less than five times.
Maxwell and Waitt were still a couple at the time of Epstein's conviction in Florida. Waitt said he knew little of Epstein's conviction, beyond Maxwell telling him that Epstein "got some work-release situation probably because it wasn't that serious kind of" offense.”
