Decking frame and balustrade materials
We are (probably) having a covered deck and verandah built. Some will be over concrete, some will be raised up to 2m from ground level.
I had a boxspan deck at my last place and was pretty happy with it apart from a screw here and there shearing or stripping the hole.
I prefer steel frames and posts to timber (or at the very least steel posts) but was considering running timber joists or battens on top of steel joists (didn't know this was a thing till today). So if a board pops up with a sheared screw or needs replacing I can easily screw it back down.
Thoughts on this?
I'll be using timber decking boards.
Also looking at aluminium balustrading (wide vertical slats) - wife wants it in a custom colour of course... So won't be able to change colour (unless we had it powder coated again $$$)
We have 2 large dogs - I'm guessing they will scratch the powder coating because they won't be able to see between the slats and they'll chase birds on the railing.
Then there's no good way of touching it up?
The youngest dog is only 5yo so will live for another 10 years or so.
Thanks.
