I am getting a persistent issue with the ALFA AWUS036ACH WiFi adapter where it will sporadically disconnect. Every 5-10 minutes, it will drop its connection and syslog will output this message:

026-05-06T21:31:17.482321+01:00 thomas-P64V7 kernel: rtw88_8812au 2-1:1.0: read register 0x4c failed with -71
2026-05-06T21:31:17.486313+01:00 thomas-P64V7 kernel: rtw88_8812au 2-1:1.0: write register 0x4c failed with -71

I am on the 6.17 kernel on Linux Mint 22.3. I have also tried the driver here: https://github.com/morrownr/8812au-20210820 but this has a similar issue except the syslog lines are not reported.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

I've been doing some research around the F2FS format as it is supposed to be a flash friendly file format. I was hoping to use it as my USB format going forward but I am running into an issue with, I think, the root_owner field.

When I format the partition using gparted it will use 0:0 for that field. When Nemo (Mint file manager) then mounts the USB it will do it as the root user which then stops me from making any changes.

To fix this I can manually format it with 1000:100 which then works for this system. The issue I have now is that if I wanted to use it on another system, I am relying/hoping that the user on that system uses the same UID and GID.

What I want to ask is, has anyone worked-around/solved this quirk?

Alternatively, is this even the intended use case for F2FS? Or am I better off using a different format?

I am currently on Linux Mint 22.3 and I have came across an odd issue.

The other day Steam wouldn't start up, when I checked system monitor it appeared to be stuck in a loop. So I terminated the process and attempted to start it again. This is when it soft-crashed back to the login screen.

I logged back in and Firefox was now closed. Now every time I try to open Steam, it crashes back to the login screen. I did some minor fault finding and found that I can still start Steam from the command line but not from the GUI menu if started normally i.e. with a left click.

Oddly, it still starts if I right-click and choose any other option.

Aside to all this, what's stranger still, my SSH agent no longer starts on startup. Even after I start it manually, my KeepassXC client can no longer access the SOCK to put my keys in the agent.

I appreciate that the last point may just be a freak occurrence, but has anyone had this sort of issue?
