Thinking about moving to UWS soon and trying to get a more realistic picture from people who’ve actually lived there because listings obviously only show the best parts. I know rent is expensive and competition is rough but I’m more curious about what the experience is like long term, stuff like yearly rent increases, dealing with management companies and whether the newer luxury buildings are actually worth it over older rent controlled places. Been trying to research buildings and landlords more carefully this time using streetsmart and other public info because I learned the hard way that the apartment itself rarely tells the full story.

Any advice, red flags or things you wish you knew beforehand would help a lot.
