My experience in India as an NRI muslim
I wanted to share my experience as an NRI Muslim staying in India for a few months during my entrance exam preparation. It was soo bad I had to face so much racism and hate just because I’m Muslim . I joined a coaching institute, and at first everyone seemed nice, but after a few weeks they started mocking Muslims and making fun of Islam, then calling it “just a joke.” Growing up abroad in a Muslim country where people of different faiths respected each other because that's what islam teaches us respect and be kind w everyone , this was completely new and hurtful for me because we were always taught to respect everyone regardless of religion.
I was constantly called names like paki and all but omg their obsession w Pakistan is crazy also After two months, I left the coaching and joined an online coaching instead, but sadly the experience there wasn’t much different. The moment people found out I was Muslim, they started making jokes again, and insulting Islam and saying this is js "Ragebait" They would qn God’s existence just to weaken my faith, mocking Palestinians suffering, and made Israel their “fatherland.” Most of them called themselves “atheists,” yet they only seemed obsessed with mocking Islam while getting defensive over their own beliefs.
This experience affected me mentally and emotionally a lot. I know not everyone is like this, and this isn’t hate toward any community, but people who normalize racism and religious hatred are a huge problem in society. After experiencing all this myself, I genuinely have a lot of respect for Muslims living in India and dealing with such things regularly.
Edit : I didn’t mention the coaching name for privacy reasons anyway, but what could the coaching even do at most? They would probably just complain to their parents. In the end, it’s the students’ mindset that won’t change, even after all this.
