late-90s Australian Goosebumps fever dream - is I? Isn't I?
My freaky little freaks, I need your help.
I’m trapped in a late-90s Australian Goosebumps fever dream and I need someone to either validate my memory or have me committed.
In the late 1990s, I entered an Australian Goosebumps “alternate ending” competition and I think I was a finalist/winner. The winning entry was maybe printed alongside or inside an early-release version of the related Goosebumps book (possibly as an insert? maybe not actually integrated into the official story?).
As part of the prize, I also received a CD-ROM copy of Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland.
HERE’S THE WEIRD PART:
I swear the game version I received may have been a prototype or pre-release build, because there was a section involving repeatedly bonking weird worm creatures on the head in a specific sequence that literally nobody could get past. Multiple people tried. We all failed. It felt broken.
I cannot find:
- any trace of this competition,
- any record of Australian alternate-ending winners,
- or any mention of this bizarre game issue.
At this point I’m questioning whether this was:
- real
- false memory
- an elaborate 1990s Scholastic hallucination
Please tell me somebody else remembers this.
