What is it like in a boot after NWB in cast? (Nondisplaced spiral distal fibula fracture)

After almost 4 weeks in a cast NWB (no surgery), I see my ortho Mon and hope to go in a boot and go to PT, if all looks ok and he clears me. I hope to start gradual weightbearing soon, at least part time at home. I am not sure what to expect mobility-wise, esp that 1st week of the boot, and I wondered what this transition was like for others. How gradual was it for you...how many weeks in the boot with weightbearing before you could stop wearing it? Could you walk inside or outside with or without crutches while in the boot? Did you drive or go to PT? I guess I will find out and I am trying to be realistic, but I have time to kill so wanted to ask....Thanks!

Experience after cast removal for nondisplaced distal fibula fracture

I am hoping to get out of the cast to the boot in 1 week after being in a cast for 4 weeks. I know Dr instructions, recovery, and experiences vary, but I am curious what that week or 2 in a boot may be like? If I can gradually weightbear, and do PT within those 2 weeks? I also wonder will I likely be able to commute to work (subway with escalators), drive, etc?

For nondisplaced distal fibula fracture (no surgery), what were your experiences right after cast removal?

Non-displaced spiral distal fibula fracture - Chose hard cast but maybe should have picked aircast instead....

The orthopedist offered both options but I asked what he recommended for my fracture and he said hard cast. 1 reason I remember being because the hard casts hold up better than the fabric boots.. I liked that it forces me to comply with complete immobilization. Now I am reading some medical info re: others recommending aircasts. I am going back in 3 weeks, probably switching to boot and PT if all looks good. I can't help but wonder if I should ask if if it is too late to switch to aircast, or just stick with thIs as planned....

Spiral fractured fibula...coping but emotional...glad I found this community...

A week before I was supposed to go to NY with my family for a much awaited trip, I was jogging (pretty slowly in a trail) and slipped on a little bridge which was wet and broke my fibula. I just thought it was just a sprain. Good thing a physician friend suggested I go to urgent care for an xray. The orthopedist confirmed it is a spiral fracture and put me in a cast, hope to get it off 7/6. I am grateful I have little pain and can sleep. And no surgery.

I am trying to adjust. I am 57 and before this, I was pretty active - nothing crazy athletic but I walk/hike a lot, jog (occasional run in fun 5ks), clean my house, do PT exercises for degenerative disc, some weights... So, my family rented me a knee-rover which has been a lifesaver for getting from room to room and standing. I hate the crutches and go up and down the stairs on my bottom like a baby learning how to walk. Cast covers for showering are hit or miss, so I recommend a garbage bag under 1st time. I am trying to focus on healing & problem solving, continuing my usual meditation routine. But like many of you I am tired...and I am pretty emotional...and it is only 1 week... Anyway, just needed to vent.
