2018 Boston Herald article, by Howie Carr , comparing the then current crop of FBI Agents to the Agents who were on the streets “ back in the day “ 😳. Photo is of FBI SA H Paul Rico and his partner Charlsetown ☘️native Dennis Condon , the duo were the “ handlers “ of Confidential Informant Stevie “ the Rifleman “ Flemmi and are the Agents credited with helping turn Joe “ the Animal “ Barboza into a cooperating witness. Barboza was one of the first federal cooperators to be relocated and given a new identity , it ended badly for the Animal but not before committing at least one murder and serving a couple years in a California state prison. Barboza was given only 5 years for a murder ( Barboza admitted to several murders previously) because SA Rico and Condon , along with a Federal prosecutor, made a trip out to California to plead for leniency due to his help in the battle against La Cosa Nostra

“ Every word of this Book is True “ 📕

Infamous Gangland Killer turned Government Cooperator , Joe “ the Animal” Barbozas memoir 👀. Originally published in 1975 , this re issue made a point to not change a single word just the text size etc. ummmm 🤔 if there was ever a book that needed some corrections and words changed, this would be it. In hindsight It turns out Barboza , a stone cold killer , wasn’t always the most truthful witness or author. In one case Barbozas version of the truth sent 4 innocent men to die in prison for a murder Barboza committed ( along with Jimmy Flemmi , who federal agents were trying to recruit for their Top Echelon CI program). 2 men , Patriarca underboss Henry Tameleo and Louis Greco died in behind bars. Peter Limone and Joe Salvati were released after serving 3 decades. “ Every word of this book is true “.??? Not so much it turns out

United States vs Salerno / The Commission Trial

Courtroom sketches of the Commission Trial 1986-87. ✍️ the Bosses of NYC Crime families were on trial facing RICO ( Conspiracy) charges. Most of the sketches are labeled . Untitled 🤷‍♂️. The first one might be Tom Santoro , Luchese Underboss but can’t say for certain 👀. Santoro was found guilty with the rest. When standing before the Judge , waiting to be sentenced to die in prison, he told the judge “ Nevermind the lecture just give me my hundred years “ or something similar 😂. Tough guy lol

The Plaza Suite , Brooklyn

1982 NewYorkTimes article on the Plaza Suite nightclub in Brooklyn. The Times was trying to track down the owner of the Disco 🕺 after a potential buyer was shot five times in the face ( ouch 🤕) by masked gunmen. The Suite was already on law enforcement’s radar after a series of suspicious fires and a previous gambling bust. The Times tracked down the owner who claimed he knew about the sale but had never met or talked to Fiala 🤷‍♂️. Fialas murder was eventually solved when Gambino Underboss Sammy Da Bull Gravano cooperated and pled guilty to 18 murders including Fialas , several former “ friends “ and his wife’s brother.

Frank Fiala murder

Credit American Mafia Facebook page for photos and description of Fialas murder in Brooklyn 1982. Gambino Underboss/ Cooperating Witness Sammy Da Bull Gravano pled guilty to the murder as part of his Cooperation deal with federal prosecutors 🤔. According to Gravano , Fiala was in the process of buying the Plaza Suite nightclub from Gravano for a million dollars 💵. Partial payment was made but before Fiala could finish the sale , he was shot to death outside the Nightclub. The reason??? According to Da Bulls autobiography Underboss , Fiala started renovations, took over Gravanos private office and when Da Bull protested, Fiala pulls a gun on Gravano and threatened him. Only one way this was going to end. Fiala dead and Gravano keeping the 💵 money and business. This seemed to be a recurring theme in Gravanos history. Murdering “ friends “ and partners ( because they left him no other options 🤷‍♂️) and taking over their business/ racket. This caused serious problems for Gambino boss John Gotti. Gravano started asking for the “ OK” to murder of other Gambino members ( ending up with their business of course 🤷‍♂️).

“ we’re illegal here, illegal there “ 👮. Wiretapping the Mob

LA Times article from 1987 about the federal government’s success in “ wiretapping “ the mafia. The title quote is from a wiretap in the “ Doghouse “ in the North End of Boston The Doghouse was the office of longtime underboss Jerry Anguilo. The quote is from his Consiglere Larry Zannino Larry thinks they shouldn’t be subject to the RICO laws because they were an illegal business 🤷‍♂️. Illegal here And illegal there 😂. Tons of great stuff from those tapes. Nothing in the article about the legality of using Transcripts of wiretaps in court or in general just law enforcement crowing about the lack of quality in what’s left of the American mob and some great quotes. Surprisingly only one mention of Gambino Crime family boss John Gotti. This must have been before Capeci and Mustane published MobStar 😂

Volare 🎶

Credit New England Wiseguy channel for photo of Boston Mob Boss Jerry Anguilo belting out a tune to ring in the New Year of 1979 🎉 The 70s were Anguilo and his brothers Glory Years , running their Gambling, loansharking businesses without interference from federal authorities or competition from the State Lottery 👀. The 80s weren’t so kind to the Anguilos. Jerry and his brothers were charged with murder and racketeering and sent off to do decades in a federal prison ( Jerry was paroled in 2007 before passing away in 2009.

Tommy "Karate" /Mobster 👀

Credit Biography YouTube channel for clip from their series “ Mobsters” on Bonnano member Tommy “ Karate “ Pitera. Seems like a lot of the info for the show was pulled right out of Phillip Carlos ( Philly Wheels 🛞) book on Potera “ the Butcher “ 📖. Which for years was basically the only source of info on Pitera. Now Karate’s daughter has a YouTube channel where she posts conversations with her father ( from Federal Prison) , going over some of the more outrageous claims in the book 📕. 🤔. If it makes sense, it makes sense. If it doesn’t 🤷‍♂️
