WAS TOLD EAGLES, NOW IT’S NOT?
HAS ANYONE HAD EAGLES SYNDROME DIAGNOSED 1) THEN CHANGED? Or 2) WHEN NOT IMMEDIATELY OBVIOUS ON IMAGING??
I got a contrast head/neck CT (symptoms: severe pain in ear, throat, neck & lesser in jaw..initially worse on left, then intensely spread to right).
Results: “Bilateral elongated/calcified stylohyoid complexes, measuring approximately 3.5 cm bilaterally. Given the reported severe left neck pain radiating to the left ear, these findings may be associated with Eagle syndrome in the appropriate clinical setting,
particularly on the left.”
THEN images reviews by another (I think more senior) radiologist: “The styloid processes and stylohyoid ligaments appear symmetrical and normal.” What the actual hell?!!
I literally tick ALL THE BOXES for Eagles: age, sex, symptoms, previous tonsillectomy… I’m still waiting for an ENT appointment. It’s a gut punch to have Eagles essentially taken away, because was told surgery is an easy fix. My GP has said it still COULD BE eagles, only ENT can diagnose..
I just don’t understand how one doctor can see elongation & calcification, but another doctor doesn’t. I don’t have jaw popping/clicking, it’s mainly ear/inside throat, and neck/glandular pain.
-Any similar stories?
-What do I expect from initial ENT appointment?
-Possible further imaging?
-Diagnoses with similar symptoms?
I just feel so frustrated & in pain. TIA
