D-10 insurance and pension questions

I got my D-10 visa a few months ago and I'm getting super confused about the health insurance and pension situation. Hopefully someone here has gone through this recently.

  1. Health Insurance:

I saw a few posts online saying that if you're on a D-10 with no income, you can apply for a reduction/discount on your monthly insurance. I called the English helpline today, but the woman I spoke to basically said no, that’s impossible, and I have to pay the full amount. Did I just get an unhelpful representative, or did the rules change? Has anyone actually gotten the discount on a D-10?

  1. National Pension:

I just got a letter saying I need to start paying into the national pension. I called the pension office and they told me that since I don't have a job right now, I don’t need to pay, and that my future employer will handle it once I get hired. However, I swear I read somewhere that some people had major issues extending their D-10 visa later on because they had unpaid pension blocks.

Should I insist on paying the pension, or is it really fine to ignore it while on D-10 as long as I'm unemployed? 😭😭😭
