Why do we need to calculate our own taxes if the IRS does it afterwards
*college student who's never filed taxes before*
Why do people have to spend so much effort filing taxes if the IRS returns any excess or bills any tax owed? Does the IRS just check and verify? Would it be a better system for the IRS to frontload the work?
