NEVER GO ON EVENT CRUISES NYC! EVER!
So D the wonderful man that he is surprised me with a July 3rd river cruise in the city too see the Tall Ships coming in to Manhattan. We live in walking distance to Liberty State Pk and see Liberty St Pk any time. So when it went towards Liberty St Park it was cool but not thrilling. We passed Governor's Island and were getting hyped. And then we came back inside to stand in line for the "buffett"-30 min line btw and you were served. Cold food, no bunsen burners underneath, and we sat down and a passenger mentioned we were heading straight back to dock.
We didn't get moving until 1250 (supposed to leave at 1230). Came back to our spot at 210. No apologies for leaving late, came back early. No announcements about not seeing Tall Ships. Granted they were the class B tall ships. But we saw nothing. Except people on their own boats, the Staten Island Ferry and a few others tour boats. The Dj was supposedly thr narrator and mentioned Statue of Liberty and World Trade. Not much more.
Many of us on the boat live in Jersey or NY. We asked people sitting around us and they were local. And folks in line. Most locals don't go on a boat that costs this much near a major holiday unless they see something special or different. So when it was ending people were complaining and furious and asking questions and the staff was lackadaisical.
Saying- we don't know where the ships are. The captain claimed he didn't know anything about it. In the caption of the tix it said Tall Ships. And to add insult to injury, as we were leaving one of our new friends that we met standing in line and we talked to throughout the miserable ride, fell. He was walking to go to the bathroom when he was leaving and the floor was soaked with water. He fell on his neck and head and hurt his elbow trying to stop himself. This was 9 or so minutes after disembarkment and the captain had already left! With people still on! They had to call him. We stood as witnesses for the incident report. It looked like after inspection that pipes were leaking from the bathroom. The floor was soaked and rusty looking on the black surface.
This cruise, the price, the scam of what it claimed we would be seeing, the cold grits, dry bacon, lack of ice, no diet drinks (they were out when we took off), no working air conditioning when it was 97 degrees when we took off, was absolutely crazy. Please never ever waste your money. I was off today on the 3rd with pay from my job. Got up super early and got ready. Took an uber to the pier. Got in line at 11. We were told to be 45 min early bc boarding was at 12, to go through that Spirit airlines low budget mess, was a waste of time, a huge disappointment and just plain wrong on so many levels.
To.have no apologies, attitudes, no announcements, no information on top of everything else was the most classless and infuriating thing I have witnessed as a customer. If they don't refund us, we will sue. We got the information of multiple passengers as people were hanging around afterwards dumbfounded and shocked as to what happened.
Wanted to be a decent citizen and warn you before you too waste your day and money.
