Ending nonsense conspiracies targeting banyarwanda and by extensions western Ugandans: Why not allow banyarwanda to be sensitive positions in Government. Informal Debate. Fight me
Almost all justification for anti-NRM rhetoric and anti-Banyarwanda rhetoric is conspiratorial and sub-institutional in origin, and does not take into account the chronological revolutionary timeline of Uganda's significance—which was built on the foundation of these very oppressed refugees who fought in major revolutionary fronts of the UPDF. In fact, they formed the revolutionary army.
>The NRA in Uganda is one of the few rebel movements in postcolonial Africa that not only designates itself as a guerrilla movement in the classical sense, but whose success, according to outside observers as well, has been based on the politicization and discipline of its fighters and their support among the civilian population – like fish in water.
>This has been the first time that a rebel movement in postcolonial Africa, operating from the middle of the country and without substantial support from the outside, has been victorious militarily and assumed political power
A few no brainers below;
- No one thinks LRA-UNLA was going to form a coherent military or state.
- No one thinks joseph Kony was a revolutionary in any capacity
- No one thinks the NRA had the most impetus kill any civilian if anything, its consistent discpline has been a central hall mark even in the modern UPDF in contrast to Amin-Obote UNLA
- No one thinks there is no real threat in Eastern DRC against Banyarwanda and the broader ethnic groups involved
- No one thinks Idi Amin was competent
- No one thinks Obote's economic, socio ideological ambitions were feasible
- No one thinks 1994 never happened.
All these points debunk these kinds of channels: https://www.youtube.com/@AcoliSideTV
No modern academic who studies these timelines interprets Uganda's interest as antagonistic to Rwanda in any meaningful way, so positing even Rwandees as being antagonistic to the state is redundant. If anything, ordinary Ugandans are more likely to be a national security threat to the interests of Uganda, following the formation LRA in northern Uganda in the early 2000s. Infact all state mal function is caused by people who do not hold dual citizen ship.
Uganda was not established in 1962 exactly. Uganda was established in 1986 when NRA aka the proto UPDF was formed. Uganda and Rwandas interests were then further aligned between 1994(1st-2nd congo war)-2019(Border crisis solved by the son of the revolutionary commander of the UPDF). We then see a consistent pattern of state affairs and dynamics being cemented not by ideology, not by institution, or ethnic identity, religious identity, but by Existential threats, which offer an explanation for the, '' Why are they so desperate for those positions in government.'' Types of questions.
Regarding the Banyarwanda: following the 1900 Uganda Agreement and the establishment of British rule, labor migrants from Rwanda (then under German, then Belgian control) moved to Uganda for work on plantations (cotton, coffee, rubber) and as domestic laborers. Between 1900 and 2026—some from the 1920s to now—many can be considered generationally Ugandan. For example, Muganga, whose family historically not only had land rights to bury their dead (as evidenced by his account of his grandmother's side) but also owned herds of cattle, could have been living in Uganda anywhere between the 1910s and 1920s.
In the current government of Uganda, holding a sensitive office as high as president or minister of international affairs—especially regarding the Great Lakes regions such as the eastern Congo or Uganda-Rwanda border affairs—requires an extensive understanding of these issues. Unfortunately, this has been treated as "revolutionary knowledge" for fear of stirring ethnic tensions, something I would argue is warranted, especially in a generation such as this one, with very little comprehension of the generational struggles of the 20th century. The institutionalized naysayers on this issue, such as Semujju (NUP), to name just a few, are to blame for much of this antagonism.
People like to also point out the failure of the government in providing for its citizens, which is an understandable critique in rejecting the functionality of government, however, it does not refer to the revolutionaries as Government and UPDF are distinct entities.
The funny thing is, many of you here will boast about your various degrees and achievements without being well versed in the distinction between English literature and Germanic-Latinate literature, and how these two forms of academic institution have been instrumental in causing extensive antagonism—not just in Uganda, but in the broader southern tectonic plate and Great Lakes region, from 1847–1884 up to the 2nd world war.
