I’m really having trouble (in baseball) on steals of third base. I’m moving into position quickly but I’m not seeing of the runner is beating the tag. So I’m just basically making the call based on whether the throw beats the runner and I’m hating it. Any tips on how to do the read step I’ve heard about?
Anybody here ever work one of these? Never heard of this organization before and got assigned 8 games in a local 13u tournament this weekend. I was absolutely disgusted by what I saw. I ejected two coaches in separate games (my first ejections in my 2 years of umping), had to separate two coaches from different teams screaming at each other in another game, and had a father charge onto the dugout screaming and I thought he was going to beat his son. He did not seem the least bothered embarrassed about this. Parents who are pressuring their children to get scholarships and make the pros when most likely ain’t gonna happen. I will never allow my son to be in that kind of environment and I’ll never work in that tournament again. And I work varsity baseball and softball, which can be intense but sportsmanship is stressed. Here it’s an afterthought.
