Affordable college application advising for alumni / applicants with an atypical profile?
I recently graduated from undergrad, so I no longer have access to most of my university’s student advising resources. I’ve already reached out to a former advisor, but the alumni resources available through my school seem to be much more career-focused than application-focused.
I’m looking for an affordable college/graduate application advisor or service that I could work with somewhat continuously throughout the application process—not just someone who reviews one essay once.
Ideally, I’m looking for help with things like:
- Overall application strategy and how to present my profile
- Personal statements / supplemental essays
- Deciding how to address a few atypical aspects of my academic history
- Reviewing my application as a whole for consistency and positioning
- Someone I can check in with periodically as questions come up
My situation is fairly specific, so I think having one person who understands the full context would be much more useful than getting isolated essay edits from different people.
I’m not looking for very expensive packages from companies like Princeton Review. I’d prefer an independent advisor, smaller service, current/former admissions professional, or another reasonably priced resource.
For anyone who has already graduated from undergrad and had to navigate applications without access to university advising, what resources or advisors did you use? Any recommendations for affordable people/services you had a good experience with would be really appreciated.
