Mothers in Big4, what does your spouse do for a living? I am considering a Big4 consulting offer - on paper, the role is exactly what I wanted and would open up a lot of doors for me in areas where I’m currently lacking technical experience. However, my husband and I want to try to start a family in the next year or 2 due to the fact we are both the youngest child with aging parents and want our children to be able to experience having their grandparents around. This role would require very demanding hours.
However, I’m concerned about (1) having to go a maternity leave 1-2 years into a new role and (2) managing childcare. My husband works in industry but his work is pretty demanding, and he’s also studying for his CPA. I worry about time management starting a family with two busy, working parents. Anyone out there have some encouraging stories or tips for how you did it? Or smack me into reality about the compromises I need to be willing to make?
