12 years into a diagnosis has gotten me nowhere. Metformin made me violently ill the 10 years I was on it, finally had one incredible doctor that got me on Ozempic.
My weight was falling off, my sleep apnea and insomnia were gone, my labs were all normal for the first time ever… Then she moved away.
I’ve spent the last year and a half trying to get anyone else to just try the P.A. be my insurance company even told me they’d cover it if any of the 4 new doctors I’ve been to would just confirm that I still require it.
No, they tell me metform is the way to go. They’ve had too many successes for it not to work for me. The insurance will deny it because it’s only FDA approved for T2D even though I met certain requirements for off label use. (Metformin intolerance, conflicting prescriptions because my blood sugar was bottoming out with my BP medication, etc.)
I‘ve been to multiple PCPs and just went to a womens health specialist who flat out told me the same thing. Because metformin works for her PCOS, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work for mine.
I‘ve thought about trying an endo, but I’m feeling hopeless. The closest one around where I live is like an hour away and I don’t want to waste another trip if they‘re just going to tell me the same thing.
