We had a gym membership until Covid and then they all closed so I started building from Facebook finds, sales, etc. the goal was to have a place for our whole family, including two little girls to play. We also park outside, but needed a way to pull in one vehicle in case of bad weather (ie. hail).

With this in mind, I built it out in a zones:

  1. Strength -

Rack and bench on

  1. the floor, attachments, plates, and adjustable dumbbells along the wall
  2. Cardio - bike and treadmill, both facing the TV for Peloton on Apple TV or entertainment (Netflix, etc.). The TV can also be rotated to face the heavy bag for Peloton workouts.
  3. Floor space with fixed dumbbells directly in front of the TV for Peloton classes, Go Noodle, Danny Go, etc.
  4. Rings and step - calisthenics and plyometrics. Plus the girls have fun with it.

I use a bit of everything. My wife sticks to cardio. My daughters love the floor space for Go Noodle / tumbling and the rings for swinging. The floors are rubber over foam so they’re squishy.

Next steps: My youngest daughter is getting into gymnastics so we’ll order accordion mats and specialty mats like a wedge for her birthday.

Edit: The squat stand/ dip station is on the way out since it’s redundant.
