Green Card returned to sender

Hi all,

We are in a bit of a fix. My wife's GC was meant to be delivered today but USPS marked it as returned to sender. Not sure why because a day ago we received the approval notice so there are no issues with the address. I called USPS right away and put in a service request and ask that they hold the envelope at my local post office so we can collect it on Monday. They created a service request but they said there's no way to ask them to hold it. So we'll just try our luck on Monday.

Assuming it doesn't work out what should we do? I know we will eventually get the card but the issue is that we are traveling to mexico in 11 days. Can we get an emergency infopass appointment for an ADIT stamp? I read that it could be hard to get those so I'm not sure. She was on an h1b and the visa on her passport has not expired. But don't think we can return back with that and the GC approval notice as the airline might not let us board from mexico and there might be issues at our POE in the US.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

GC Approved!

My spouse's green card was approved today. It was a very long journey and took almost 4 years. Filed under F2A concurrently in September 2022!

Interview in Jan 2024 for I-130 and I-485. I-130 was approved on the spot with status update the next day. I-485 could not as her PD was not current during time of interview. F2A became current in October 2025 and we raised congressman inquiry in November. First response from USCIS was that her PD was not current which was wrong. We responded to that and in January they came back and said case would be assigned to an officer. Nothing happened so we raised another inquiry in March and added that I became a citizen late last year so she wasn't subject to F2A anymore. Got a response in April saying case was transferred to our field office. Two days later we got an RFE about medicals as that had expired. Officer even gave her a call and they let her drop it off in person the following week.

Officer reviewed the medical and noted everything was fine but could not approve due to enhanced security checks. She said she expected it to be resolved soon but did not have much info. My wife also showed them my passport to prove citizenship and they took a copy of it. She asked to upload paystubs and tax returns from last 3 years which we did online once we got home. Earlier this week, she got a case is still being processed status update. Yesterday there was a silent update and today her case finally changed to approved. So this was 8 calendar days after dropping the medical in person and submitting the paystubs and tax returns online.

Was a very long journey and I think the repeated congressman inquiries helped otherwise who knows when the file would have been transferred back to the field office.

We did not need to apply for AP and EAD because she maintained valid H1B status.
