(Picture is my setup before the projector died)

I’m about a month into trying to replace my old projector setup, and I feel stuck.

For the last 5 years, I had a 100" Silver Ticket white screen with a BenQ TH685. It wasn’t amazing in brightness or contrast, but I was happy with it. Unfortunately, the projector recently died.

I originally planned to switch to a 100" TV, but we have kids and my wife is worried about something hitting it and breaking it. My room is fully light-controlled, so I decided to stay with projection and bought a JMGO N1S 4K Ultra.

At first, I loved the brightness and 4K image, but the laser speckle on my Silver Ticket screen was brutal. Even my wife noticed it immediately, and she normally never notices display issues.

I then bought a Silver Ticket acoustically transparent screen because I read it could reduce speckle. It definitely helped with the speckle, but now I can clearly see the screen texture from about 9 feet away. Text looks rough, and detailed scenes turn into mush. Unfortunately, I can’t really sit farther back.

My ceilings are low, so I need a projector that can do 100" from around 8-9 feet away. I’m struggling to find anything under about $1600 that feels like a real upgrade. Buying another 1080p BenQ for $900 feels hard to justify, but I’m also not sure laser projection works for me because I seem really sensitive to speckle and screen texture.

Now I’m considering a Hisense U6 100-inch TV and just accepting the risk of kids damaging it, but I’m not even sure that’s the right move either.

At this point, I honestly have no idea what the best option is in my price range. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
