Free Airport English Role-play for Speaking Classes

I made a free Airport English role-play that some of you might find useful.

It’s designed for A2–B1 learners and can work well with junior high, senior high, and adult ESL classes.

The download includes:
- Student A & B role cards
- Airline employee and passenger scenarios
- Challenge cards to keep conversations going
- Teacher instructions
- Answer sheet

I wanted something that gets students speaking naturally instead of just reading dialogues from a textbook.

It’s free to download from Teachers Pay Teachers:

I’d love to hear any suggestions or ideas for improving it. If anyone tries it in class, let me know how it goes!

How do you teach idioms without overwhelming students?

I’m a secondary English/EFL teacher and have been creating some travel-themed materials recently.
I often find that students enjoy idioms, but too many at once can become overwhelming or difficult to remember.
How do you introduce idioms in your classroom?
Do you teach them through themes, stories, extensive reading, conversation activities, games, or something else?
I’d love to hear what’s worked well for your learners.

Sharing a Future Tenses Snakes & Ladders Speaking Game I Created

Hi everyone,

I’m a secondary English and EFL teacher from Australia, and I thought other teachers might find this speaking game useful. I’ve used it many times in class, and it does a great job of encouraging students to speak in complete sentences while practising future tenses.

This Future Tenses Snakes & Ladders game focuses on:

• will
• be going to
• hope to
• would like to
• plan to
• want to

Students move around the board and answer speaking prompts about future goals, careers, travel, technology, dreams, and personal plans.

The resource includes:
• Printable game board
• Teacher instructions
• 40 Speaking question cards

It’s designed for approximately A2–B1 learners, but could easily be adapted by encouraging longer responses and follow-up questions.

I’d be interested in hearing how other teachers approach future tense speaking practice and whether you think this would work with your learners.

Sharing a Future Tenses Snakes & Ladders Speaking Game I Made for JHS/SHS Students

Hi everyone,

I’m an Australian ESL teacher preparing for a move to Japan to work as an ALT in the future.

I’ve been creating communicative English activities that encourage students to speak more in class, and I thought I’d share one here in case it’s useful.

This is a Future Tenses Snakes & Ladders game designed for junior high and senior high school students.

Students practise:
• will
• be going to
• hope to
• would like to
• plan to
• want to

The resource includes:
• A printable game board
• Teacher instructions
• 40 Future tense speaking cards

The questions focus on future goals, careers, travel, technology, dreams, and personal plans. Most prompts require students to give longer answers rather than single words, helping to build confidence and fluency.

Suitable for approximately A2–B1 learners and groups of 2–4 students.

If you’re currently teaching in Japan, I’d love to hear what speaking activities work well with your students.

Free ESL/EFL Resources for ALTs in Japan – Feedback Appreciated

Hi everyone,

I’m an Australian English teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching English, including extensive ESL/EFL experience.

I’m currently preparing for a future move into ALT work in Japan, so I’ve started creating and adapting classroom resources with Japanese learners and ALT classrooms in mind.

I’ve begun uploading some of these resources to Teachers Pay Teachers, and they’re completely free.

Current resources include:
• Find Someone Who speaking activities
• Human Bingo worksheets
• Conversation cards
• Pair-work speaking tasks
• Low-prep communicative activities

My goal is to build a collection of practical resources that ALTs can use in elementary, junior high and senior high school classes.

You can find them here:
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/cool-bananas-english

If you’re currently working as an ALT, I’d love to hear what types of resources would make your job easier. I’m always looking for ideas and feedback.

Thanks!
