New proxmox setup
Hey everyone,
I finally put together 3 PCs to use in a proxmox cluster for my home environment and before I get started, wanted to ask what I hope is a simple question..
Each node has 2 SATA Enterprise SSD's:
- 480gb Micron 5300 MAX (99% Health)
- 1.92tb Micron 5300 MAX (100% Health)
I am planning to use the 480gb drives as the OS/boot drive and the larger drive for VM disks.
Question: Should I use EXT4 or ZFS for the OS boot drive? I know I want ZFS for the VM disk, but is there any real benefit in using ZFS for the OS/boot drive?
Each of the 3 nodes has matching HW specs:
Dell Precision 3450 SFF
Intel 11700 CPU
64gb DDR4 3200 Ram (non ECC)
1x Micron 5300 MAX 480gb
1x Micron 5300 MAX 1.92tb
Dual Intel i226-v 2.5gbe card (I flashed latest firmware so no more disconnect bug, yay!)
I do plan to use HA replication for a couple VMs or containers but not all of them and I know using ZFS on the VM disk will allow that.
I will likely us PBS and send backups to my NAS.
I searched for quite a while and I was very lucky to grab those enterprise SSDs. Especially the 1.92tb drives.. they are showing 100% health and only 32gb written!
Thanks everyone!
