Why does the US feel so bland outside of major walkable cities like NYC, Philly, etc?

I am an American and I just got back from Colombia where every town looks different, different stores, different foods, different styles, and you can walk anywhere, sit for a coffee or a drink anywhere and just see people go by.

Life is about socializing, partying, interacting, living.

Then I come back to the US and it's all cookie cutter, you cant go anywhere without a car, the coffee shops are mostly starbucks and then hipster joints.

In Colombia there is no HOA making sure everything around you looks exactly alike, over there you just LIVE!! And neighborhoods are diverse and interesting to explore. Here everything must be planned, homogenized, sterilized.

The nightlife, let's not even start with the nightlife. I was in a town of 30k people, and the nightlife was more happening than my city of 2 million people!!!

I ate a crapload more in Colombia (carbs included) and I lost weight, its back once I started eating US food (despite eating vastly greens, tuna, chicken, drinking just water).

Colombian towns and cities are full of people (Its like being in NYC), while here in the US, the only human you see on the street is the neighbor leaving their house walking to their car.

Am I the only person who finds this mind numbing, sterile, bland American environment extremely problematic?
