Work permit refusal
Need some honest advice regarding my PGWP situation.
I enrolled in a 2-year diploma program in Canada. During my studies, I failed two subjects and had to redo those courses, which extended my studies close to 3 years.
Because of the repeated subjects, two semesters were marked as part-time:
- Fall 2024 (2 courses)
- Winter 2025 (final semester with 1 course)
IRCC accepted the final semester because it was my last academic session, but refused my PGWP because Fall 2024 was considered part-time.
At the time of my original PGWP application, I did NOT submit an SOP/explanation letter explaining why those semesters became part-time and that I was repeating failed courses required for graduation.
After refusal, I submitted a reconsideration request, but reconsideration was also refused.
However, I also submitted a new PGWP application through a lawyer with a much stronger SOP explaining:
- why my studies extended
- why those semesters became part-time
- that I had to redo failed courses to complete the program
- and that those were the only available courses for me to graduate
That reapplication is still in process.
Has anyone gone through something similar where:
- initial PGWP refused because of part-time semesters
- reconsideration refused
- but reapplication with strong SOP/explanation later got approved?
Would really appreciate honest advice or experiences.
