How do you approach purchases with gift cards/store credit?

I recently decluttered shelf collectibles, as my attitude towards plastic collectibles (i.e., Pop Mart, Sonny Angels, etc.) has drastically shifted over the past couple of months. I went to a game store today and traded in maybe 80% of my collection (amiibos, specifically), which granted me about $160 in store credit.

I’ve been trying to save for a game I’ve been anticipating since it was announced and it’s finally going to be released in July. With how expensive things have been lately, especially gas, I decided to get rid of stuff I didn’t really need so I could buy the game (+ $20 gift card) and use my liquid cash towards essentials/hobbies that’ll get me out of the house lol.

The game announcement also came with announcement for three of these same amiibo figurines, which equate to $20 more than what the game itself cost. After the game + the gift card, I have about $73 left in store credit. Part of me wants to buy the figurines cause that same part of my brain doesnt see it as “my own money being spent.” The other part of my brain is telling me this could be used towards 2-3, or even 4 additional games around the holiday season when they go on sale, and it would be a better return on investment than figures that collect dust (and give bare minimum in-game benefits that I can create myself using nfc coins).

Sorry if this is a little long, lol, but how do you guys approach purchases with gift cards in general?
